Our Authors
Butterscotch Memoirs is a boutique publishing house. We do not chase volume. We invest in a select group of authors whose voices deserve to be heard.

Maurice T. Williams
Founder & Author
Maurice T. Williams founded Butterscotch Memoirs Publishing with a simple belief: the world around us, from nature to the rhythms of everyday life, is one of storytelling's greatest teachers. What began as a collection of children's books has grown into a creative home for stories that celebrate culture, inspire leadership, and honor the power of friendship across generations. His five children's titles are written as connected stories, designed from the start for expansion into animation, consumer products, and global licensing. Maurice holds a B.S. degree in Administration of Justice from Texas Southern University and is a proud Veteran of the United States Army.

Donna Peake
Author & Illustrator
Donna Peake has enjoyed teaching and promoting literacy through her career as a classroom teacher and elementary principal. Attending the University of Irvine's Writing Project opened the door to writing and storytelling, and a renewed love for watercolor painting brought her words to life on the page. She co-illustrated her debut book, In The Friendship Garden, with her granddaughter Shelby Peake, and has since written and illustrated four additional titles. She is the only author on our roster who both writes and paints every page she publishes. Her work explores friendship, loyalty, acceptance, and the love of nature, drawing from settings as vivid as the coral reefs of Maui and as tender as a bear's search for honey. Every page reflects her belief that storytelling and art can nurture a child's imagination and sense of connection.

Lawrence N. Gillis
Author
Lawrence N. Gillis has enjoyed an outstanding career with the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services for more than 38 years. He also enjoyed a brief tenure as a history teacher and a camp counselor, giving him well over 40 years of experience working with at risk youth in Baltimore City. His debut book, The Adventures of Smarty T Bear, draws directly from that experience. He feels most youth are good youngsters, but some lack the resources to make better choices. They need better examples from the adults in their lives. Self esteem is born from success, and his storytelling uses spirituality, humor, and love to help build a better self image in young readers.
